Seva Yatra Connects Youth with Communities Through Grassroots Service
Sep 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact today through video conference with participants of the Seva Yatra travelling from Vadnagar to Varanasi under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
The interaction will give the Seva Yatris an opportunity to share their experiences from the journey, which aims to strengthen youth participation, community engagement and voluntary service across the places covered by the teams.
The Seva Yatra began on September 17 and is part of the wider Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. Ten groups are undertaking the Vadnagar-Varanasi journey, travelling through towns, districts, talukas and villages across several states. The programme is scheduled to continue until October 7.
The key benefit of the initiative is its grassroots approach. Instead of limiting the journey to travel between two cities, the participants are engaging directly with local communities and taking part in activities that address everyday social concerns.
During the journey, Seva Yatris have participated in cleanliness drives and interacted with residents and beneficiaries. They have also visited schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other community institutions.
For young participants, the journey provides an opportunity to understand local social issues more closely, interact with people from different communities and gain experience in organising and participating in public-service activities. For local communities, such engagements can create greater awareness around cleanliness, social welfare and civic participation.
The initiative also creates a platform for cultural exchange as participants travel through different regions, interact with local residents and learn about their traditions and community needs.
Beyond the motorcycle journey itself, the Seva Yatra is therefore designed around youth participation, social service, community mobilisation, cultural interaction and grassroots engagement.
The wider campaign was launched from Vadnagar on September 17 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The motorcycle initiative includes journeys in both directions between Vadnagar and Varanasi, connecting locations associated with Prime Minister Modi’s public life.
The Vadnagar-to-Varanasi journey is expected to continue highlighting the role of young people in community service while encouraging greater participation in local social and public initiatives.
