11-year-old realizes his passion for games – Creates ‘Treasures of Thiruvananthapuram’

 

Bangalore: In another example of getting the best out of lockdown and making it productive, a 11-year-old Ishaan P A, a student of Ekya School, J. P. Nagar, Bangalore has designed, developed and published a family board game – ‘Treasures of Thiruvananthapuram’. It is a treasure hunt game based on the treasures hidden in the famous Padmanabhaswamy Temple at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. This game, being one-of-its-kind, is attracting a lot of attention.

Treasures of Thiruvananthapuram is a family treasure hunt board game which challenges skill, luck and decision making ability in you. It has treasure cards, custom made wooden dice from Ludhiana, handcrafted wooden pawns from Channapatna and cloth bags all made from eco-friendly products. The game is set in the backdrop of Kerala and can be played by four players at a time. The game play has two phases. Phase one involves a player traversing on the board using different modes of transport and finally reaching the temple in Kerala. And the second phase involves code cracking the treasure vaults and winning the treasure cards while trying to reach the destination. The player who has the maximum value of treasure in the end wins the game.

Congratulating Ishaan on developing his first game, Ms. Sreepriya Unnikrishnan, Principal, Ekya Schools JP Nagar said, “It gives me an immense pleasure to witness students like Ishaan who portray such vivid imagination and creativity. His vision and passion about games has helped him to create and develop the Treasures of Thiruvananthapuram. He has invested his extra time after the online classes to work on this board game. We at Ekya, are very happy about the unique talents at the school. To encourage these talents, we focus on bringing a holistic approach to learning. Students are encouraged to take part in various activities to upskill their knowledge and also help them prepare well and make them future-ready.

Talking about the game Ishaan P A, Student, Ekya School J P Nagar said “During my spare time in the lockdown, I came up with this idea of developing a game to bring family closer, socialise and refrain from online games or social media. My passion about games motivated me to come up with this board game. The entire process took one year from the design phase to bringing the idea into a reality. I distributed the games to my friends and neighbours to get feedback and everyone enjoyed it. In future I have plans to develop more games.”

The proud parents of Ishaan, said, “We appreciate the efforts made by the school and the faculty at Ekya J P Nagar for encouraging students to think out of the box and providing the necessary support in nurturing their talent. This is in turn helping the students to grow in academics as well as other aspects of life. We are proud of Ishaan’s ability to give life to his imagination and develop this game.”

Temple of Thiruvananthapuram has 6 Vaults hidden inside, waiting to be discovered and cracked open with lots and lots of treasures. Players have to decode the vaults to find the precious hidden treasures. This game is a long journey with many challenges. Starting from facing the mighty garudas to tackling the scary crocodiles and beating the venomous snakes on the way to the treasure. Only the most skilful coupled with luck can win this game.
