University of Delhi Hosts ‘Acharshala’ on “Youth, Democracy and the Future of India”
New Delhi, 2 September 2026:
The Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare, University of Delhi, organised ‘Acharshala’ at Tagore Auditorium, Faculty of Arts, on the theme “Youth, Democracy and the Future of India.” The programme brought together around 140 students and 20 faculty members for an engaging discussion on democracy, national development and the responsibilities of the youth.
Shri Nitin Pramod, I.F.S., Director, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, was the Chief Guest, while Prof. Bharatendu Pandey, Head, Department of Sanskrit, University of Delhi, was the Guest of Honour. The programme was chaired by Prof. Ranjan Kumar Tripathi, Dean, Students’ Welfare, University of Delhi.
In his keynote address, Shri Nitin Pramod highlighted the importance of press freedom and an informed citizenry in a democracy. He spoke about India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, emphasising the importance of good governance, education, infrastructure and civic participation. He also urged young people to recognise and resist everyday forms of corruption and develop strong geographical and geopolitical awareness. He concluded his address with a message that the responsibility of making India a Vishwa Guru by 2047 rests on the vision we nurture and the action we take today.
Prof. Bharatendu Pandey connected India’s classical intellectual traditions with the responsibilities of modern democratic citizenship and encouraged students to embrace self-improvement, discipline and active participation in nation-building.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. The event provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with distinguished practitioners and academics on issues shaping India’s democracy and future.
