New Delhi, Aug 12: India’s net direct tax collections increased 23.09 per cent year-on-year to ₹8.11 lakh crore as of August 10, 2026, reflecting strong growth in tax revenues during the current financial year.
Net direct tax collections stood at ₹6.59 lakh crore during the corresponding period of the previous year. The latest increase was supported by strong growth across major tax categories, including corporate tax, non-corporate tax and Securities Transaction Tax.
Non-corporate tax collections recorded particularly strong growth, rising to ₹5.07 lakh crore from ₹4.11 lakh crore a year earlier. The category includes tax payments by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, firms and other non-corporate entities.
Net corporate tax collections also increased significantly, reaching ₹2.70 lakh crore, compared with ₹2.26 lakh crore during the same period last year, marking a growth of 19.83 per cent.
Gross direct tax collections rose 19.75 per cent year-on-year to ₹9.55 lakh crore as of August 10, compared with ₹7.97 lakh crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Refunds during the period stood at around ₹1.43 lakh crore.
The latest figures indicate continued momentum in direct tax revenue mobilisation and underline the importance of sustained tax compliance and economic activity in supporting government revenues.
The strong performance in tax collections is expected to provide a positive backdrop for the government’s fiscal management as the financial year progresses. Higher revenue receipts could support public expenditure while providing greater fiscal flexibility for development and infrastructure priorities.
The government will continue to monitor tax collection trends, compliance levels and broader economic activity as it works towards its fiscal objectives for the financial year 2026-27.
