Goyal highlighted India’s commitment to supporting partnerships that can strengthen industrial growth and build more resilient supply chains. Greater Japanese participation in these sectors could contribute to investment, technology development and job creation in India.
The minister also met Toshiaki Nagasato, President and Representative Director of Meiji Seika Pharma Co. Ltd., to discuss opportunities to deepen India-Japan cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
The discussions included possibilities for expanding the company’s manufacturing and research and development presence in India. Goyal highlighted the opportunities offered by India’s growing pharmaceutical ecosystem and its potential to support Japanese companies seeking long-term expansion.
The meetings form part of India’s broader effort to strengthen economic ties with Japan and encourage Japanese companies to increase their presence across strategic sectors.
For India, greater Japanese investment could support manufacturing capacity, infrastructure development, technology adoption and stronger supply chains. For Japanese companies, India offers a large market, an established industrial base and growing opportunities in high-value manufacturing and services.
The engagement also reflects the wider push to deepen India-Japan economic cooperation through greater business-to-business partnerships and investment. Cooperation in mobility, energy, infrastructure and pharmaceuticals could become important areas of the relationship as both countries seek new avenues for long-term growth.
Goyal’s discussions with Japanese companies are expected to encourage further investment and strengthen commercial links between the two economies.
