The City of Greater Bendigo has just launched its second annual campaign – Bendigo Bloom – to celebrate Spring 2021 with a mixture of wine, heritage, arts and outdoor experiences. With a combination of spectacular in-person and virtual experiences, Bendigo Bloom enables all Victorians to get involved in this fantastic initiative showcasing what the picturesque regional Victorian destination has to offer over the Spring months.

Over the duration of three months – September, October and November 2021 – physical and virtual visitors to the central Victorian region will be able to enjoy around 20 amazing experiences throughout the Bendigo, Castlemaine and Loddon Valley regions – ensuring spring 2021 will be action-packed and one to remember for all.

Showcasing eight hallmark events for all the family to enjoy as well as many smaller quirkier themed events – Bendigo Bloom is the perfect excuse for a spring getaway for regional Victorians and metro Melbourians – should it be permitted. From the family-friendly Augmented Reality Tulip Hunt to wine experiences such as Bendigo Uncorked Week – there is something for everyone.

Bloom – Showcase Events

Staggered throughout the three spring months of 2021, Bendigo Bloom will be offering showcase events for the family and adults to enjoy.

  • Djaara Lights: All new, first-time activation experience, Djaara Lights will be unveiled on Saturday November 6, 2021. The project aims to bring land and culture back into the Bendigo region through the display of spectacular Aboriginal artwork creating a new Bendigo precinct.
  • Summer in the Parks – Spring Edition: From music to movies, discover a number of events over the school holidays in Bendigo’s iconic parks in late September.
  • Bendigo Uncorked Week: Over a jam-packed ten days – October 1 to October 10, 2021 – Heritage Uncorked Week will showcase all things Bendigo wine, from the Mediterranean styled whites, the luscious roses, and of course, bold reds. Each of the five events will be held in stunning unique buildings across Bendigo.
  • Annual Tulip Display: Watch 50,000 tulips blossom (including a huge outline of a tulip made from tulips) from mid-September until early October 2021 along Pall Mall and the Conservatory Gardens – either online or in-person.   • Open House Bendigo: Returning to Bendigo for the second time on Saturday October 23 and Sunday October 24 2021, Open House Bendigo showcases Bendigo’s heritage buildings and modern architecture. Exhibiting more than 20 public projects, buildings, spaces and programs, Open House Bendigo provides a public platform for celebrating quality and purposeful design in the City of Greater Bendigo.
  • Apiam Bendigo Cup: Positioned just 6 days before the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday October 26, 2021 the Apiam Bendigo Cup attracts a quality field of world class stayers as they attempt a last minute passage into Flemington.
  • Brett Whiteley: Drawing is Everything Exhibition: Displayed until October 31, 2021, the Brett Whiteley: Drawing is Everything exhibition showcases Whiteley’s exceptional talent for drawing. Featured pieces include lyrical landscapes, portraits, interiors, nudes and iconic imagery of Sydney’s Lavender Bay.
  • Bendigo on the Hop: Bendigo On The Hop is one of Australia’s best winter beer festivals. Taking place on Saturday October 23, 2021, indie brewers from all over the country will be coming to regional Victoria to showcase their beers to enthusiasts in a range of unique venues in the centre of Bendigo.

In addition to Bendigo Bloom’s showcase events, more intimate experiences will also be available to visitors throughout the campaign each with unique and quirky angles – under the banner of three categories – colour, nature, nurture – there are events suitable for all. Examples from each category are listed below.

Bloom – Colour

  • Loddon Valley Arts Trail: From October 23 and October 24, 2021, an arts trail created by artists for artists is set to showcase talented individuals across the Loddon Valley region. Featuring at least 24 artists, the art will vary from paintings, knitting, metal, woodcraft, mosaics, and garden art – to name a few.
  • Pinot and Picasso Workshops: Taking place at Hargreaves Mall, the step-by-step workshop allows artists to pick up a brush and sip on a glass of their favourite wine whilst creating a Picasso masterpiece.
    Bloom – Nature
  • Augmented Reality Tulip Hunt: A new augmented reality experience for families over the school holidays. Find eight tulips around local gardens and parks to go into the draw to win a Uniquely Bendigo hamper! The app will be available to download from 17 September 2021.
  • Virtual Tulip Curator Tour: Bendigo’s talented tulip creators are taking to Facebook on September 17, 2021 at 11am for a Live Curator Tour – where they will discuss the history of Bendigo tulips, the best way to grow them, and some fun and whimsical elements of this year’s designs.
  • Castlemaine and District Festival of Gardens: The gardeners of Castlemaine and District are opening their front gates and welcoming visitors in to enjoy the fruits of their labours from October 30 to November 7, 2021. Tickets are $5 per garden.

Bloom – Nurture

  • Morning Tai Chi: Every Wednesday morning in spring, Dai Gum San are offering free Tai Chi Classes from 10am – 10:45am. There will also be classes on Saturday October 2 and Saturday, November 27 from 10am – 10:45am.
  • The Dispensary Gin Experience: The 2-hour Dispensary Gin Experience is a unique and fun way to get to know the history of gin & distilling methods. The experience will be hosted on Saturday October 9, 2021 and Saturday November 13, 2021.
