The Future of Molecular and Nano Medicine: A Vision of Targeted Drug Delivery Using Advanced Homeopathy and Ayurveda

By Prof PB Sharma, Dr Anu Rani & Dr Astha Sharma

Recent advances in drug design and drug discovery using modern scientific tools of analysis and systems of design have created pathways for the development of molecular and nano medicines and their targeted delivery to make the treatment most effective and least disruptive by its highly minimized side effects. This has created high hopes for treatment of deadly diseases like cancer, liver cirrhosis, brain tumors and even chronic asthmatic disorders and who knows tomorrow even artillery blockages and heart ailments.

Much of the success however, besides the advancement of the systems of targeted drug delivery, shall depend upon the efficacy of the drugs themselves and their compatibility with the natural biological systems that human body nurtures and relishes. It is here the importance of natural medicines and their formulations using most modern systems of drug design and drug discovery holds a great promise for tomorrow’s molecular and nano medicines. The ancient Vedic system of medicine, the Ayurveda, and the more recent system of nano medicine, Homeopathy, developed by the German Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann in the 18th century, would then find their rightful place in the modern systems of medicine and healthcare. The authors in this short communication have described their vision for the future of molecular medicine as may be derived from Ayurvedic and Homeopathic roots.

I. The Catalyst: Personal Recovery Meets Rigorous Science

The current medical paradigm often dismisses rapid, profound recoveries from chronic illness as anomalies and their scientific process as placebo effect. This applies to recovery from cancers, asthmatic disorders, and chronic mental health by homeopathic and Ayurvedic drugs and their derivatives. Rightly so, as the present level of science fails to understand the magic of these often-described wonder drugs. However, the lead author to this article has experienced himself a miraculous pediatric recovery from irreversible liver damage in his early childhood around the age of 3 years via Gular (Ficus racemosa) milk molecules, and the near-instantaneous remission of a 20-year asthmatic disorder through nanoscale homeopathic medicine administered in 1998 through porous sugar globules.

These events suggest that the human body is not merely a chemical vessel, but a sophisticated information-processing network. At Amity University Gurugram, under the visionary leadership of its Vice Chancellor Prof PB Sharma, the research in pharmacy provided a pathway to decode the mysterious effect of Gular milk molecules for the treatment of liver damage and to understand the magic of homeopathic treatment of chronic asthma. The mission at Amity University Gurugram was to move beyond the “Placebo” label and decode the molecular and quantum mechanisms that make such wonders a reproducible reality.

II. Decoding the Natural Library: The Gular Study at AUH

The Amity University Haryana research into Ficus racemosa utilizes the “Gold Standards” of modern drug discovery to validate ancient wisdom. By moving from the “milk” of the plant to the specific phytoconstituents, Dr Anu Rani, Prof PB Sharma, Dr Saurabh Bhatia and Dr Arun K Sharma (Toxicology Research 2024, 13, Issue 4) have bridged the gap between ethnobotany and neuropharmacology.

• Phytochemical Mapping: Using GC-MS profiling, researchers identified 128 bioactive constituents in Gular fruit and leaves.

• Molecular Docking: The AUH researchers have demonstrated how these molecules physically “dock” with enzymes like AChE and β-secretase, which are central to Alzheimer’s Disease.

• Safety validation: Through histopathology and toxicological screens, the researchers at AUH have proven that these natural “wonder drugs” are innocuous to vital organs, and are compatible to the biological human body, thus offering a level of safety that synthetic pharmaceuticals often struggle to match.

III. Decoding the Nanoscience of Homeopathy

The instantaneous disappearance of 20-year-old chronic asthma of the lead author (Prof. PB Sharma) way back in 1998 by a single dose of homeopathic medicine owes its roots to the magic of nanoscience that works with efficacy and speed. The homeopathic medicine of 30C potency dilutes the formulation to a nanoscale making the drug delivery using nanoparticles administered using porous sugar globules by the then homeopathic intern at a leading hospital in Delhi. The porous sugar globules carried the nanoparticles of the homeopathic drug and through the nanopores of the tongue of the patient, perhaps allowed the magic of targeted nanomedicine delivery to reach instantaneously to the regions of secretion and released the pulmonary pathways that were blocked and were causing asthma. It is interesting to note that the asthma did not return even after 27 years of its treatment. It is here the importance of the treatment by the nanomedicines of Homeopathy holds its importance. The scientists need to further explore the mechanism behind the ever lasting impact of nanoparticles of homeopathic nano-medicine and through deep scientific investigations demonstrate the ways the nano-medicine works in such chronic situations.

IV. The Three Pillars of Future Vision

The future of Molecular and Nano Medicine in view of the authors is to be built upon three revolutionary shifts in our thinking:

i. From Bulk Chemistry to Nanoscale Signaling

The whole idea of administration of modern medicine in bulk through tablets or in injections is based on the idea of the bulk of the medicine treating the ailment through the body system. This requires a major shift in our thinking as the era of molecular and nano-medicine has arrived. We believe that the body responds more effectively to a “signal” than to a “mass.” Just as a small digital file can run a massive machine, nanoscale doses—whether delivered via the porous sugar of a Batasha or a homeopathic globule—act as biological software updates.

ii. The Bio-Photonic Network (The “How”)

Taking a clue from the ways homeopathic and Ayurvedic formulations work swiftly and often for good for the whole life, we need to ask as to why do these treatments work in split seconds? Our vision incorporates Quantum Biology. We propose that the nervous system utilizes coherent water domains and quantum tunneling within microtubules to transmit healing signals at speeds far exceeding chemical diffusion. This is the “Window” through which we understand rapid asthma remission. The future research be targeted to illustrate the mechanism behind and the role nanoparticles play in making the medicine work with such an enormous speed and ease.

iii. Epigenetic Reprogramming

A few doses of Gular milk created a lifetime of liver health, as in the case of the testimony of the lead author. This suggests that Molecular Medicine of the future will not just “treat” symptoms; it will use targeted molecular signals to flip epigenetic switches, turning off inflammation and turning on the body’s innate regenerative pathways. The same will be the case for nanoscale particles of Homeopathic medicine that besides destroying the secretion creating mechanism, provided a major boost to innate immunity that not only prevented recurrence of asthma, but also boosted overall immunity to allergies ailments. Perhaps this will provide a pathway for reprogramming of the innate immune system of human life.

V. The Path Forward: Targeted Delivery

This vision for the targeted drug delivery culminates in the development of Smart-Bio-Nanoparticles. By encapsulating the “Gular signal” identified in our GC-MS studies into lipid-based nano-carriers, the researchers should aim to:

• Bypass the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) for Alzheimer’s treatment.

• Deliver “zero-toxicity” healing to vital organs.

• Provide rapid-onset relief for chronic respiratory and metabolic conditions.

VI. Conclusion: A Call for a Pluralistic Science

The Future of Molecular Medicine is not about choosing between “Modern” and “Traditional.” It is about a Unified Science where the tools of the future (Molecular Docking, GC-MS, Nanotech) are used to harness the intelligence of the past.

With our work and the vision, we aim to prove that the “Saviors of Human Life” have been standing in our forests all along. We would thus be simply providing the scientific language to let them speak. The “Saviors of Human Life” would then get a greater recognition of their caring connect with the vast humanity to qualify for the care and compassion they deserve being the part of the extended family of human beings as in the Vedic command of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam, meaning that the whole world including the entire creation is one family and thus has a common future.
