HelpLIS-Mission stands with the Librarian Community in India during coronavirus Pandemic

Bhubaneswar (31/05/2021). The coronavirus pandemic has confronted the global community with an unprecedented situation. The unprecedented challenges have to be met with unusual initiatives. The second wave of Covid-19 is taking away the lives of many Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals globally, and India is not an exception to it. A significant number of LIS professionals are struggling for their survival. While the families of those working in government and well-established institutions are adequately compensated/supported, those in private establishments are receive meager or no support at all. In such difficult times, a group of LIS Professional Associations joined together and have decided to assist Covid-19 affected professionals and their families. Now, this mission is known as HelpLIS-Mission (www.helplis-mission.org/).

Odisha Library Academy (OLA) feeling proud to be a part of this mission to coordinate the eastern region of India. In this regard, a virtual meeting was organized by Odisha Library Academy on 31st May 2021 evening. OLA president Dr. Banamber Sahoo reported to the media “HelpLIS-Mission is the first mission in India which is specially standing with the Librarian Community during coronavirus Pandemic. Hope all the Library Associations in India will be coming together and exhibit their solidarity to the Librarian community.”
