Galgotias University’s iOS Development Center Nurtures Sakhi, a Personal Health Companion for Women
Two B.Tech CSE students at Galgotias University – Karan Kumar and Arpita Gupta when first came up with the idea of Sakhi during the university’s inaugural iOS Development Bootcamp. They were not just thinking about creating an app, but a solution to help women navigate their hectic daily routines while managing their health, emotions in a world that often shies away from open discussion.
Bringing Care into Code
Driven by the visionary leadership of Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University, the institution is committed to nurturing talent that not only excels academically but also creates meaningful impact through innovation. Inspired by this mission, Karan and Arpita conceptualized an app designed to be a gentle, empowering companion for women — helping them track their cycles, receive timely reminders, and, most importantly, feel heard and supported. At the heart of every design decision was a single guiding question: “What would make someone feel less alone?” This became the foundation for everything — from the intuitive user interface to the thoughtful emotional wellness reminders.
A Human-Centered Journey
At Galgotias University’s iOS Development centre, powered by Apple and Infosys, developing Sakhi gave Karan and Arpita hands-on experience and training with world-class tools and mentorship. The faculty and industry experts mentored them on each and every step to integrate empathy into each and every pixel. By the time the app was launched in the app store, Sakhi had developed into a comprehensive cycle and wellness tracker that provided useful health resources encased in love, optimism, and inclusivity
Impact Beyond Technology
The main goal behind Sakhi was to tackle societal stigma around menstruation and provide personalized care to individual users — a small but significant step toward more candid and respectful health discussions. Seeing messages from actual people describing how Sakhi made them feel more organized, conscious, and cared for is Karan and Arpita’s happiest moment.
They see Sakhi as evidence that technology can produce soulful answers and that when students are empowered with the right guidance and freedom to innovate.
