English Poetry from Bihar out for public perusal

The book titled ‘English Poetry from Bihar,’ featuring a selection of poems from late Prof. Gurudas Mukherjee, Patna University, to Denmark-based Prof. Tabish Khair, was released on Sunday at the Press Club of India, New Delhi. The ceremony was organised under the aegis of British Lingua, an institute of international repute for English communication skills. The literary event was convened by Prof. Indibar Mukherjee, retired from Patna University, Bihar.
The book is the first-ever anthology of English poems by prominent authors from the pious land of Bihar. The literary work has been given the shape of a book by Prof. Ram Bhagwan Singh, based in Patna, retired from Ranchi University.
Speaking as the chief guest of the ceremony, the former IPS officer Amod Kanth and the founder of Prayas, NGO said, “The collection of poems is pretty intriguing to me, especially those by Prof. Gurudas Mukherjee, who was not only a poet and author, but also a remarkable teacher who left an indelible mark on English literature and the standardisation of English teaching.”
“Reading poetry allows us to understand fascinating parts of literature and creativity. Prof. Gurdas Mukherjee was an exceptional teacher with poetic skills and literary ideals. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been his student.”, said Sudhanshu Ranjan, Former Additional Director General of Doordarshan and Aakashvani.
“Composing a poem entails writing anything using rhyme and rhythm with carefully chosen words to have an aesthetic, emotional and lasting impact on others. It comes from the power of imagination and arouses, awakens, and fills us with the desire to do more.”, added Dr Birbal Jha, noted author and social entrepreneur.
Prof. RK Dhawan, former professor of English, at the University of Delhi, summarised the entire book, saying that English poetry from Bihar is a great anthology worth reading as it encapsulates poetic contributions from Bihar to the world literary work.
“A poem, like music, has a therapeutic impact and is beneficial to health,” said the medical practitioner Dr Usha Dhawan, who was joined by Delhi University’s associate professor Dr Prerana Sinha to say that poetry brings vitality and enthusiasm.
Prof Indibar Mukherjee, the convener of the programme while offering a vote of thanks said, every scholar is an institution in himself and herself to send a message of positivity and creativity in society.
Prominently among others were the IFS Abhay K, one of the poets from Bihar featured in the book, besides Dr Prashant Sinha, IITian Mukesh Singhal, Bhola Jha, Rajpal Gangwar, Umanath Singh from Prasar Bharti, Pramod Kumar Jha from NSDC, and Vishwanath Jha, a journalist.
