Tata Power-DDL Gears Up for Monsoon Season with an Extensive Safety Drive

As the monsoon season approaches, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power utility supplying electricity to over 2 million customers in North & North West Delhi, is all set with the preventive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its customers and reduce the chances of electricity related incidents. In line with this commitment towards safety, Tata Power-DDL is conducting an extensive safety drive including inspections and maintenance activities to handle the challenges posed by the upcoming rainy season.

  • Stay away from electrical installations such as poles, transformers, and substations during rains.
  • In case of any fallen or dangling power lines, report immediately to Tata Power-DDL’s helpline 19124.
  • Avoid leaving the electrical appliances wet or touching them with wet hands.
  • Do not leave any open sockets or wires unattended.
  • In case of sparking in meter rooms or light poles, customers can call our Toll-Free No. 19124 for assistance.
  • Use safety devices like circuit breakers and surge protectors to safeguard your home from electrical faults.
  • Always keep a ‘Tester’ at home. If a switch is wet, do not touch it. First use a “Tester” to check if there is an electricity leakage. If required, call your electrician.

As a part of the pre-monsoon safety drive the discom is conducting inspections and maintenance of electrical equipment and lines installed in public areas. Leakage testing of 1,73,109 Poles, 1734 PWD/MCD Poles, 492 ATMs, and 1549 streetlight poles installed in MCD/DDA parks have been conducted. Proper maintenance of the earthing of electrical installations is being done to ensure their effectiveness.

Heavy rainfall brings an array of challenges, such as waterlogging, strong winds, and lightning, all of which can adversely affect the power infrastructure. Understanding these challenges, Tata Power-DDL has intensified its efforts and has taken proactive measures to spread awareness about electrical safety among consumers to mitigate risks while ensuring public safety.

To maximize the impact and as a part of the monsoon preparedness, Tata Power-DDL is conducting regular visits to check on meters in public installations like hospitals, malls, schools and colleges to ensure a seamless supply of power in the coming months. Apart from this, adequate vegetation management activities are being taken so that there is no chance of trees falling on electrical installation leading to disruption of the power supply.
