Swiggy witnesses strong festive ordering momentum during Holi, with ‘Food on Train’ driving celebrations on the move

Mar 27: Swiggy witnessed a strong surge in festive ordering during Holi this year, with its ‘Holi-yayed’ Food on Train edition turning train journeys into moving celebrations across India. The platform enabled thousands of travellers to celebrate the festival with full fervor, bringing festive favourites directly to their seats.

During the Holi period, Swiggy delivered over 5,764 Holi-specials across 1,381 long-distance trains, highlighting the growing demand for festive food beyond homes and traditional gatherings. The holi trinity of cravings was samosa, lassi, and pyaaz kachori dominated orders, reflecting a preference for familiar festive flavours even while travelling.

Among stations, Jaipur emerged as the top contributor, with every 8th order being a Holi special, underscoring the city’s strong festive participation. The trend was visible across regions, with trains like the Kerala Express recording 780 orders alone, showcasing how the celebration extended from North to South India.

Swiggy’s scale and operational strength were further highlighted through a record single order of 122 items, successfully delivered to a passenger aboard the Indore–Amritsar Express, pointing to a rise in group and celebration-led ordering behaviour during travel.

The data indicates a broader shift in consumer behaviour. Increasingly, consumers are also celebrating big festivals like Holi “on the go,” with convenience and access playing a key role. As travel demand continues to remain high post the festive period, Swiggy’s Food on Train service remains available across 160+ stations, enabling travellers to order meals directly to their seats by searching “Train” on the app.
