Greater Agra to be Rebuilt Through Cultural Revival; Set to Emerge as a New Growth Engine

PAN India Apr 09: The historic tourism city of Agra is set to gain a new identity—not only for its iconic heritage but also as a model of modern, sustainable urban development. The upcoming “Greater Agra” project, inspired by Greater Noida, aims to seamlessly blend cultural revival with world-class infrastructure.

A key highlight of the project is the development of 10 thematic townships named after sacred rivers of Indian civilization, including Sindhu, Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada, Godavari, and Kaveri. This culturally rooted approach seeks to give the city a distinctive identity while honoring India’s rich heritage.

Developed under the Chief Minister Urban Expansion/New City Promotion Scheme by the Agra Development Authority, the project spans approximately 450 hectares across the villages of Raipur and Rehankalan, with an estimated investment of ₹5,142 crore.

Greater Agra is also envisioned as a strategic urban hub that will help ease developmental pressure on nearby cities such as Noida and Gurugram, contributing to balanced regional growth.

The project will feature 10 townships—Sindhupuram, Gomtipuram, Gangapuram, Yamunapuram, Betwapuram, Mahanadipuram, Narmadapuram, Godavaripuram, Krishnapuram, and Kaveripuram—offering modern residential facilities for approximately 1.5 lakh residents. A total of 4,712 plots will include residential, group housing, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

Each township will be equipped with essential infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, community centers, hotels, banks, post offices, police outposts, and fire stations, ensuring a self-sufficient and well-planned urban ecosystem.

The development will incorporate advanced urban infrastructure such as modern road networks, sewage and water treatment plants, power substations, and solid waste management systems, positioning Greater Agra as a smart and sustainable city.

Strategically located near the 100-meter-wide Inner Ring Road, the project enjoys seamless connectivity to National Highway-19, Fatehabad Road, and the Yamuna Expressway, along with proximity to the Yamuna River and Kuberpur Railway Station.

Environmental sustainability is a core focus, with at least 15 percent of each township reserved for green spaces, including parks, open areas, and sports facilities.

Among the townships, Yamunapuram is planned as a commercial hub to drive business activity, while Kaveripuram will focus on water-based recreation and tourism.

Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Jaiveer Singh stated that Greater Agra is not just a housing project but a transformative initiative that will generate employment, attract investment, and strengthen the local economy.

The Greater Agra project represents a forward-looking model of urban development that integrates cultural heritage with modern growth, positioning Agra as a prominent national and global urban center. Business News For Profit
