Gillette Children’s Accepted into the World Rehabilitation Alliance
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Gillette Children’s was recently accepted into the World Rehabilitation Alliance (WRA). WRA is a global initiative launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote rehabilitation as a core part of health coverage.
WHO estimates that globally, 2.4 billion people are living with a health condition that could benefit from rehabilitation. However, in low- and middle-income areas, more than 50% of people do not receive the rehabilitation they need.
As a member of WRA, Gillette is recognized for its commitment to advocate for rehabilitation as an essential health care service and its research on the importance of rehabilitation services on long-term outcomes.
Gillette holds the highest concentration of fellowship-trained pediatric rehabilitation medicine specialists in the nation. It has one of only two pediatric specialty programs in Minnesota accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) to meet the needs of young children and adolescents seeking inpatient rehabilitation. Gillette is one of eight U.S. pediatric inpatient rehabilitation facilities to have CARF accreditation for both its pediatric specialty and pediatric brain injury programs.
WRA supports the Rehabilitation 2030 Initiative, which aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or location, can access high-quality rehabilitation services. Gillette hopes to further the goals of the initiative within the local community, providing families with easy access to care, inclusive programming, and innovative rehabilitation solutions that meet the diverse needs of children.
In reflecting on Gillette’s acceptance, Vice President of External Affairs Andrea Stoesz says, “This honor reflects a growing number of ways Gillette is emerging on the global stage because of our unique expertise and steadfast commitment to advocacy. Our voice is helping shape the future of rehabilitation, not just in Minnesota but around the world.”
