AP Govt Enterprise AMTZ and Narayan Seva Sansthan Ink 5-Year Pact to Boost Affordable Indigenous Prosthetic & Assistive Tech
Mumbai, Feb 17: In a landmark initiative aimed at advancing indigenous, cost-effective, and high-performance prosthetic, orthotic, and assistive technologies, Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited (AMTZ), India’s premier medical technology park, has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Narayan Seva Sansthan (NSS), a nationally recognized non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
The partnership seeks to combine AMTZ’s state-of-the-art R&D, prototyping, and manufacturing ecosystem with NSS’s clinical expertise and nationwide rehabilitation experience. Together, the collaboration will focus on making advanced prosthetics, orthotics, mobility aids, and hearing solutions affordable, while supporting NSS’s Vision 2030 to deliver 1 lakh high-quality artificial limbs to beneficiaries across India.
Currently, advanced prosthetic limbs, such as those with pneumatic knee joints and carbon foot components, cost approximately ₹41,000 due to imported parts. Through indigenous manufacturing and backward integration at AMTZ, the partnership aims to reduce costs to ~₹10,000, maintaining high performance, durability, and user comfort.
“Through our partnership with AMTZ, we are redefining possibilities for persons with disabilities across India,” said Ms. Palak Agarwal, Director, Narayan Seva Sansthan. “By making high-performance prosthetics and assistive technologies affordable and accessible, we are empowering individuals to regain mobility, independence, and confidence, fulfilling our Vision 2030 of reaching 1 lakh beneficiaries nationwide.”
AMTZ will provide technical and operational support, access to R&D and testing infrastructure, and assistance in joint research initiatives. NSS will lead clinical validation, rehabilitation protocols, and nationwide assistive device camps. Both organizations will also jointly pursue grants, patents, and funding opportunities to accelerate innovation and scale access to underserved communities.
The collaboration spans a broad spectrum of solutions, including:
- Prosthetics: powered, myoelectric, sports/recreational, cosmetic restoration; covering partial foot to hip disarticulation.
- Orthotics: foot orthotics, diabetic foot management, off-loading shoes, modified insoles, walking braces.
- Mobility and assistive aids: walkers, crutches, canes, rollators, wheelchairs, standing frames, twin devices.
- Hearing solutions: advanced hearing aids and assistive devices.
This partnership represents a transformative step toward creating technology-enabled, performance-driven prosthetics and assistive technologies, blending global standards with grassroots impact, and ensuring that affordability does not compromise quality or functionality.
