CM Tamang Attended Third High-Level Task Force Meeting on Agriculture for North-East
New Delhi, Dec 26: Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, on Dec 24, attended the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force on Agriculture in the North-Eastern Region via video conference. The meeting was chaired by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The meeting focused on deliberations over the key recommendations of the High-Level Task Force report, with emphasis on strengthening agricultural value chains across the North-Eastern Region. Discussions centred on improving crop productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, promoting value addition and agro-processing, and enhancing market linkages to ensure better returns for farmers.
Participants also discussed the prioritisation of crops into backbone, growth-driver, premium, and emerging categories. The development of GI and organic clusters, adoption of precision agriculture practices, strengthening cold-chain and logistics infrastructure, and leveraging financial and institutional support were also key areas of focus.
The discussions highlighted the importance of improving access to finance, technology, and investments to boost agricultural growth in the region. Emphasis was placed on coordinated efforts among the Centre, State Governments, and concerned institutions to address long-standing structural challenges in the agricultural sector.
The meeting underscored the need to translate the Task Force’s short-term, medium-term, and long-term recommendations into measurable outcomes, aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with the aim of achieving sustainable and inclusive agricultural development across the North-Eastern Region.
