India Internet Governance Forum 2024: A Gateway to Digital Transformation
Delhi, December 09th, 2024: The Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a global multi-stakeholder platform established by the United Nations, brings together representatives from governments, private sector, civil society, academia, and technical communities as equals to discuss public policy issues related to the Internet. Known for its collaborative and inclusive approach, IGF serves as a key forum for shaping policies that promote an open, secure, and accessible Internet worldwide. The platform addresses diverse issues such as cybersecurity, digital inclusion, data privacy, and emerging technologies, fostering shared global solutions.
This legacy takes center stage at the India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) 2024, scheduled for December 9-10, 2024, at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Initiative led by India’s multistakeholder community and supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), the event aims to explore key dimensions of Internet governance, foster dialogue, and showcase India’s leadership in the global digital ecosystem.
After successfully convening the first 3 Hybrid edition of the India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) in 2021 and 2022, 2023 the Fourth edition of the IIGF is being conducted under the overarching theme “Innovating Internet Governance for India,” underscores the importance of creating a secure, inclusive, and ethically governed Internet. The forum will focus on bridging the digital divide, enhancing trust and safety in the online space, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies for nation-building.
The Hon’ble Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Commerce and Industry, Shri Jitin Prasada, will inaugurate the event in the gracious presence of Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY.
Key Highlights of IIGF 2024:
The event will delve into crucial sub-themes, including Empowering Connections, which focuses on enhancing access, inclusion, and rights; Legal and Regulatory Frameworks for creating a balanced and growth-oriented Internet ecosystem; Responsible AI, emphasizing ethical and effective use of artificial intelligence; Building a Greener and Sustainable Internet, exploring energy-efficient digital practices; and Trust and Safety, aimed at strengthening cybersecurity and user confidence. These discussions will bring together diverse stakeholders to address pressing challenges and opportunities in Internet governance.
