LetterToRiver Global Writing Campaign by Udaan Youth Club

The #LetterToRiver Global Writing Campaign is an international effort by Udaan Youth Club (UYC) encouraging people worldwide to write letters to their local rivers, expressing gratitude, concerns, and hopes. The campaign aims to raise awareness about river conservation and inspire action among global communities. The second edition is now accepting submissions observing World Rivers Day 2024, with a target of collecting 1 million letters by 2030 to share with stakeholders and motivate steps toward river protection.

About the Organization:

Udaan Youth Club (UYC), founded in 2016 by SR Aman Kumar, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social and environmental awareness, sustainable development, and community engagement. UYC aligns its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing particularly on environmental conservation and social responsibility. Udaan Youth Club is using the creative power of writing and graphic designing for social awareness using internet media. This practice of using technology for social good by rural youth of Udaan Youth Club has been appreciated with several recognitions including Changing Chalks Awards.

About the Program:

The #LetterToRiver Global Letter Writing Campaign is more than just a writing contest—it’s a call to action for people around the world to reconnect with nature and advocate for the rivers that sustain us all. Rivers are lifelines for ecosystems, cultures, and communities. They nourish our land, provide clean water, support biodiversity, and carry the stories of countless generations. Yet, many rivers are threatened by pollution, climate change, and unsustainable practices.

This campaign offers a meaningful way for people to express their love, gratitude, and concern for these vital waterways. This World Rivers Day 2024, we can write personal letters to reflect on what rivers mean to us, share our experiences and stories, and call for their protection. By collecting 1 million letters by 2030, UYC aims to compile a powerful collection of voices that can influence policymakers, raise awareness among the public, and foster a sense of global stewardship for river conservation.
