Sparsh Hospice to organise ‘Blame it on Yashraj’, a Bollywood musical comedy, an annual fund raising night on August 26
Hyderabad, August 20, 2022.…..: City-based palliative care facility Sparsh Hospice is organising its annual fundraising night ‘Sparsh Nite’ on August 26 at 7.30 pm in the city at Shilpakala Vediaka, Madhapur.
Mr. KT Rama Rao, Minister today unveiled the poster of the play.
The fundraising event will feature a comedy play ‘Blame it on Yashraj’, a Bollywood musical comedy about an Indian family caught in the whirlwind of a wedding. The proceeds from the event will be utilized to provide free palliative care facilities to terminally ill patients. So far, Sparsh Hospice has provided free palliative care services to over 5,000 terminally ill patients.
Once upon a time, around 54 BC (that’s before Bollywood Control), weddings in India were simple ”rituals linked to individual communities” affairs. Then Bollywood changed the face of Indian weddings forever, making them all clones of a Punjabi Bollywood six-day wedding. Blame it on Yashraj is the hilarious story of a Punjabi/Bengali family, who get caught up in the whirlwind of a wedding when their darling daughter decides to marry a boy from another community. Innovatively mounted with fast-changing video walls as backdrops, every scene and every emotion is enhanced with music and dances, hilarious parodies of popular Bollywood tracks, and an ensemble cast of well-known stage and TV artists. The play, which will feature a foot-tapping score by Louis Bank, promises to be a laugh-a-minute roller coaster ride. The humor in the play comes not from gags, but from the ”I have seen that I have said that, I have experienced that in my family!” feeling! The play is a mirror of our life being shown on stage.

Developed on a 1.2 acre of land at Khajaguda, which was donated by the State government, the Sparsh Hospice has 82-beds including 10 pediatric beds and home-care services. The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated in 2021 by IT Minister, KT Rama Rao.
Sparsh Hospice-Centre for Palliative Care, a project of Rotary Club of Banjara Hills Charitable Trust, aims to extend free-of-cost palliative care services to terminally-ill patients through in-patient, out-patient and home-care services.
Palliative Care is the care given to terminally ill patients. Sparsh Hospice is an 82 bedded new facility at Khajaguda. The 60,000 ft facility was constructed on a 1.1 acre leased land which the Government of Telangana allocated to it for 33 years lease and was inaugurated recently.
Palliative care at Sparsh involves physical, emotional, and spiritual care, with a team of trained doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapists, counselors, and spiritual guides. It also offers home care services.
India has a huge burden of people suffering from life-limiting diseases. Less than 1% of the population in India has access to pain relief services and palliative care. Population density, poverty, restrictive policies regarding medicine prescription, lack of institutional interest in palliative care, and lack of palliative care infrastructure are some of the major reasons behind the limited coverage of palliative care in India.
