Enabling Rural Ecosystems Through Decentralised Renewable Energy
In an ambitious initiative to reshape climate action and alleviate poverty in India, the Sustain Plus Energy Foundation (SPEF) emerges as a pivotal force. SPEF aims to bridge the energy gap and enhance climate resilience through decentralised renewable energy technologies for the underserved and unserved communities. These technologies, collectively known as PURE (Productive Use of Renewable Energy) solutions, play a crucial role in empowering local communities and transforming farm livelihoods across the country.
The effective implementation of PURE solutions can reduce dependence on fossil fuels, unreliable centralised energy sources. This builds climate resilience by shifting control of productive energy access into the hands of the community. Further, promoting the involvement of women in managing these energy solutions can contribute to fostering gender equity within these communities SPEF’s mission is to address the needs of small and marginal farmers in economically disadvantaged and marginalized regions of India by leveraging renewable energy solutions. By setting up production hubs and deploying advanced technologies, the foundation is not only enhancing agricultural productivity but also fostering sustainable development.
SPEF’s impact is evident in its extensive deployment of technology solutions across India spanning multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
With over 23,000 deployments done by Sustain Plus, we are experiencing immense demand from the community for these technologies. It’s an opportunity for financial institutions to join hands with us to take the work to the next level of scale” says Ganesh Neelam, Director of Sustain Plus Energy Foundation (SPEF).
As SPEF continues to expand its reach and refine its strategies, its role in fostering climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices remains crucial. Through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships, the Foundation is setting a benchmark for climate action and rural development in India, ensuring a brighter and more sustainable future for countless farmers.
Pratapsingh Nathani, Director of LoanXpress, underscores the importance of this collaboration: “Our partnership with SPEF focuses on supporting the financing of technologies that enhance climate resilience in agriculture; this comprehensive program effectively addresses the diverse challenges faced by small and marginal farmers, making a substantial impact on their livelihoods and the broader agricultural sector.
