BNP launches a new Freedom Movement for Bengaluru on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Anniversary

BNP launches

Bengaluru 13 August 2022: Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party (BNP), India’s first and only city-party focused exclusively on Bengaluru and its municipal governance, has launched a new Freedom Movement to deliver good governance to Bengaluru. Citizen Participation, Accountability, and Transparency are the keys to good governance and BNP has pledged to deliver the same to Bengaluru, a city that has been suffering from misgovernance for many years.

Speaking about the significance of citizen participation in municipal administration, Lalithamba B V, Head of Campaigns of BNP, said, “The BBMP Act mandates that wards should be administered by Ward Committees & Area Sabhas with full citizen participation, However, no party or Corporator has worked towards putting Area Sabhas in place. BNP pledges to constitute Area Sabhas in wards comprising citizens from civic groups, citizen groups, RWAs, apartment associations, etc., who in turn can work towards identifying the right projects to be executed in their wards. BNP has already created informal Area Sabhas in quite a few wards comprising citizens who take up civic issues, attend Ward Committee Meetings and resolve the same. And the first promise of BNP is to constitute Area Sabhas in every ward where BNP Corporators are elected.”

Talking about how the city is in bad shape due to lack of accountability, BNP Zonal Leader and Core Working Group Member, Kamlesh Nichani said, “BNP has brought to light the 4g Scam which highlighted that almost half the BBMP ward-level projects worth Rs. 4,721 crore in the last 5 years were given to a single contractor, KRIDL (Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd.), without any tendering process, for which they also get paid a commission of almost 5 – 15% on every project. The 4g Scam section on the BNP Website (https://nammabnp.org/) provides all the details relating to this which is one of the key reasons why our city is in bad shape. BNP pledges to bring every project under a tendering process with the involvement of good contractors to help improve the quality of works.”

Talking about the importance of transparency and how BNP has already put this in place, Srikanth Narasimhan, Founder and General Secretary of BNP said, “BNP makes a solemn promise to Bengaluru that we will endeavor to bring details of every project in the future also in the public domain so that our money cannot be misappropriated. Unlike other political parties, Bengaluru NavaNirmana party (BNP) has walked the talk through its Citizen Portal even before its election to power. BNP has already made the details of all projects of the wards in the public domain available on its website. The party’s website https://bright.nammabnp.org/citizen-portal has the details of all the projects across wards and the provision for citizens to download the details of projects in their respective wards.”

It is time for citizens of Bengaluru to understand how our hard-earned money is completely mismanaged and goes unaccounted through scams and misgovernance by the elected representatives. BNP is looking to get good citizens elected as Corporators to the BBMP Council and makes a solemn promise to Bengaluru that it will fight to bring citizen participation, accountability, and transparency to BBMP with a view to stopping the corruption, loot, and misgovernance, which has been rampant in BBMP.

BNP flagged off its BNP Freedom Movement on 13th August 2022 through a Freedom March to BBMP Office in which hundreds of citizens participated. This Independence day, as part of its Freedom from Misgovernance Movement, BNP has put out a request to every citizen of Bengaluru to take a simple pledge stating what kind of freedom they need in the context of Bengaluru’s misgovernance –
